Captain Savvy's Sing-along Crew
Captain’s Savvy Sing-along crew’s panel from the first annual Anime California really spoke to me and gained my attention within the first song. I went to both regular and 18+ sets and enjoyed singing along every minute. I’ve always liked anime OSTs and influential music to being a geek/nerd but something about hearing these songs live and sung by other fellow nerds and geeks make the music really hit home and creates memories that leave you a lasting impression one why to come back to the next Anime California. CSS Crew consists of Samuel Khosravi on the lead vocals and guitar, Sean Seuss on backup vocals, guitar, and saxophone, Serj Tachyon on keyboard and guitar and Chris Bunch on bass guitar. While their lead vocalist Samuel Khosravi is on a trip to japan their

CSS Crew’s song set stretches far and wide in anime and nerd culture scene. Pokémon, Sailor Moon and Naruto’s OSTs are just some of the anime songs they play in their set. Their rough hour and forty minute set contains popular songs like the he-man version of Four Non Blondie’s what’s going on and Disney songs like Let it go from Disney’s Frozen and acoustic version of Be a man from Mulan. Singing in Japanese or with a rough pirate accent is no problem for acting lead vocalist Sean. Zombies, Gay pirates and machines that want to kill you are just some of the themes that the Savvy Crew sings about.
I had the chance to hang out with the Savvy Crew after their 18+ show and we kicked back while I asked keyboardist Serj Tachyon about his beginnings in the Crew and is current thought. He mentioned that without the captain being there the savvy crew was still strong and I believed so too. His beginnings with the crew started with Captain Samuel approaching him before, the captain, played in panels at anime conventions. Samuel started with humble beginnings outside favorite anime conventions playing his set of songs gathering attention of convention attendees. Serj eventually joined the crew and so did other member and eventually the crew become what we know today. Simply the CSS crew are a bunch of nerds that have the gift to express and perform music that has influenced us in one way or another.
